A mysterious company director reportedly linked to North Korean arms trafficking can be revealed as a former South Auckland Burger King employee who says she made “one little mistake”.

Lu Zhang, 28, is charged with 75 counts of making false statements in company registration forms – by the seemingly minor act of declaring her office address as her home address.

But that technicality saw her in Auckland District Court yesterday, linked with the hire of a Russian-owned cargo plane that was seized in Bangkok last December carrying 35 tonnes of arms, including rockets and grenades.

Typhoon Kompasu hits South Korea

Typhoon Kompasu struck South Korea on Thursday, killing at least four people and toppling trees, streetlights and scaffolding in what was called the strongest storm to hit the Seoul area in 15 years.

Powerful gusts knocked over power lines, cutting off electricity to tens of thousands of homes and forcing airports to cancel or delay more than 60 international flights, the National Emergency Management Agency said.

KPMG report – Corporate Fraud biggest threat

Corporate frauds “ …. involving the manipulation of accounting systems continued to be the biggest single fraud threat to organisations” in the June 2010 KPMG Fraud Barometer.

The twice-yearly study, this edition of which covers January to June 2010, draws its inferences by monitoring fraud matters before the courts and found that accounting fraud is the leading cause of such actions.

5 killed as police fire on mob attacking Indonesian police station

Indonesian police opened fire and killed five people when an angry mob attacked their station with firebombs in a protest over the death of a man in custody, police said Wednesday.

More than 20 people including several police were injured during the violent clash late Tuesday in the town of Buol, Central Sulawesi province, local deputy police chief Dewa Parsana said.

HK scam hits Christchurch

A sophisticated scam has hit Christchurch from Hong Kong.

In the elaborate ruse, the target receives a letter containing two scratch tickets for a lottery offered by the Midway Financial Investment Group of Hong Kong, ostensibly to celebrate its 30th anniversary. One ticket is the winner of a lot of money and a phone number is provided to claim the prize. Callers go through several calls and steps vetting their eligibility.
